Approximately 29 Dissertation Fellowships will be awarded in a nationwide competition sponsored by the Ford Foundation and administered by the National Research Council of the National Academies.  These fellowships offer an annual stipend of $21,500.

Applicants must be United States citizens or nationals who are members of one of the following ethnic minority groups:  Native American Indian, Alaskan Native (Eskimo or Aleut), Black/African American, Mexican American/Chicana/Chicano, Native Pacific Islander (Polynesian or Micronesian), or Puerto Rican.

Awards will be issued for study in research-based doctoral programs (PhD or ScD) in the behavioral and social sciences, humanities, engineering, mathematics, physical sciences and life sciences, or for interdisciplinary programs composed of two or more eligible disciplines.  Applicants are expected to be engaged in or planning a career in teaching and research at the college or university level.
