WPVI-TV offers internship programs for matriculated college juniors and seniors.  Internships are available in the Public Affairs, Creative Services, Programming, and News Departments for the Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters.

There are several guidelines for participation.  Students must be at least 18 years of age, a junior or senior enrolled in an accredited college or university, and receiving academic credit for the internship.  The student's schedule must allow a sufficient number of hours for satisfying the course requirements and the duties assigned by the WPVI staff supervisor.  The college or university is responsible for submitting criteria for station evaluation and review of specified work done by the student intern.  Details on applying to intern programs are available on their website, www.wpvi.com

WPVI-TV NEWS DEPARTMENT
Contact:  John Morris, Newsroom Producer

Interns in this department must work a minimum of 15 hours per week in seven and a half hour workday blocks.  They can work up to a maximum of 37.5 hours a week.  Interns may work days, nights, weekends or any combination that fits their school, work, or personal schedules.  Interns are not paid and must receive academic credit from their college or university for the internship.  Internships are available for the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters.

Many interns in this department work as production assistants in the Newsroom.  They work primarily with the news assignment desk and the producers.  When working with the desk, they place calls to check out tips and leads on news stories, verify information for broadcast, set-up or arrange shooting locations and schedules for news crews, field news tip calls from viewers, and work to maintain and update future story coverage files.

Interns working with producers do research on news stories, prepare and distribute the newscast scripts, and help insure edited tapes are delivered and ready for broadcast in a timely manner.  In addition, they are given ample opportunity to learn and observe the various functions that go into the production of a newscast.

Other interns have more specialized assignments, including working with health/medical reporter Anita Brikman, working on the early morning newscast helping to research special feature segments, or working in the Sports Department.  Interns may also work in WPVI's Trenton or Wilmington News Bureaus.
