Christopher House and Gathering Place provide psychosocial rehabilitation to adults with serious and persistent mental illness.  Dedicated and experienced professional staff members offer individuals, recovering from mental illness, a structured and compassionate environment where they can regain the necessary skills and confidence to continue their lives in a satisfying way.

Unpaid volunteer opportunities are offered in various areas.  Volunteers are needed from 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday.  Volunteers may assist counselors with groups.  They may also take part in and assist with various recreational activities.  Volunteers are given the opportunity to perform research.  Volunteers should possess proficient listening and counseling skills.  They should be able to interact appropriately with individuals who have mental illnesses.

If you are interested, contact Carol Spiker by phone or e-mail her at compeernj@juno.com.  Come into the Sociology/Anthropology Department and take a look at their brochures.  These are both great opportunities.
