NJPIRG Citizen Lobby is the
citizen advocacy arm of the New Jersey Public Interest Research Group.
This organization is the state's leading environmental and consumer watchdog
group. NJPIRG is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that has
been fighting for over 25 years to preserve the environment, protect consumers,
and promote democracy. In New Jersey, they have passed the strongest
clean water law in the country, passed legislation to reduce the amount
of toxic pollution that enters the environment, and fought to lower ATM
and big bank fees.
NJPIRG has prided itself of
its dedication to working with young adults who have an interest in improving
society and our quality of life. They not only get things done, but
they also teach people the skills it takes to solve these problems.
NJPIRG Citizen Lobby has a professional staff who works with college students
through their internship program. The staff gives students hands-on
experience working on a variety of issues. Students can earn course
credit for work they do to improve our water ways, pass campaign finance
reform, improve the air we breath, manage a non-profit or pass pro-consumer
legislation.
NJPIRG is currently interviewing
students who are interested in making a difference on issues they care
about while learning the skills it takes to succeed. The NJPIRG internship
program teaches students campaign planning, lobbying, media relations,
non-profit management, grassroots organizing, internet organizing, and
web design. Through your daily organizing, weekly meetings with program
directors, and a bi-weekly intern class, students will get an excellent
experience working with one of the premiere public organizations in the
state.
