NJ-CRC INTERN PROGRAM
The New Jersey Community Resource Center, Inc. seeks to enhance its programs by recruiting student interns from local colleges and universities. Our goal is to provide an experience to the student intern that meets all requirements of his/her school, while at the same time, provides the CRC with additional resources in key areas of research, program development and coordination, and outcome measurements. Below is a more detailed description of the areas of technical assistance we provide to our local churches, and for which we are seeking qualified individuals:
Needs Assessment and Demographic Research – in order to determine the programs to be provided by the local church, we must provide accurate and timely research that helps to pinpoint areas of need in a particular community. Our research in this area so far has consisted of web-based searches and surveys conducted in targeted neighborhoods. We would welcome an individual with experience in all phases of needs assessment, including writing, conducting and compiling survey information.
Program development and coordination – we have some programs that are up and running and have need for individuals to guide them through a program development system which will assure establishment and delivery of “best practices” procedures in these programs. We welcome individuals who possess the necessary program management skills to assist in the field with these various programs.
Outcome Measurement – one of our most pressing needs is to begin the process of measuring outcomes for our faith-based and community programs. We “know” from anecdotal and other informal data that these programs are remarkably effective in changing lives and communities and making very positive inroads into problems facing communities today. However, due to lack of formal, recognized outcome measurements, our local programs find it difficult to attract funders. We welcome individuals who would provide the necessary skills to select outcome measurement software, and to implement a program at our Burlington office where this information could be gathered and analyzed.
Government Relations – we are very actively involved with federal government officials regarding our efforts in faith-based and community programs. We work closely with We Care America, a national CRC with offices in Washington, DC. However, we have a current and urgent need to establish similar relationships on the state level here in New Jersey. We welcome individuals who possess an interest in assisting us to make inroads in Trenton with a variety of agencies.
Funding Research – we actively pursue funding for our faith based and community programs from a variety of sources, including local, state and federal government grants, as well as private foundation and corporate funding. We welcome individuals who have experience in grant writing and who would be available at our Burlington office to research funding for a variety of programs.
Other Research – from time to time, our local programs request special research. Sometimes this might be research in existing programs, or researching the possibility of embarking on a new program. We welcome individuals who have the ability to perform research in a variety of subjects and using a variety of research tools.
Strategic Planning – working with our professional strategic planning staff, we welcome individuals who have an interest in working with local churches to establish a working plan to implement programs for their communities.
Technical Assistance – the NJCRC continually develops programs and materials for our local churches to use in managing their programs from an administrative standpoint. We welcome individuals who have an interest in assisting in our Burlington offices with developing and delivering training materials and programs to our local churches.
OTHER INFORMATION FOR OUR INTERNS
For purposes of our intern program, the NJCRC has identified various targeted geographic areas of concentration. Our efforts are not limited to these areas, but we tend to establish programs in these areas, because the local pastors have indicated a higher level of needs for services in these areas. Currently these counties include: Essex, Union, Hudson, Passaic, Camden and Mercer. As part of our intern program, travel to these locations will probably be necessary.
The NJCRC will reimburse interns for reasonable out-of-pocket expenses, including mileage at the standard IRS rate, tolls, parking and other miscellaneous expenses. We will also provide a meal allowance for evening work and while traveling on our behalf. In some circumstances, we may offer a small stipend to our interns.
The NJCRC is affiliated with the NJ District Council of the Assemblies of God, and we work in a Christian environment. We welcome interns of all (or no) faiths, but you need to know that we are a Christian organization, and we want you to be comfortable working here. Therefore, we are happy to answer any questions you may have in this regard as you consider us for your internship experience.
